A tongue-in-cheek depiction of the moniker "Starving Artist", I started this painting July 16th, 2026. I staged a photo in our kitchen, utilizing common kitchen tools/utensils as props, along with numerous used brushes I'd saved up for this image. Finished September 10, 2026, it took 157 hours to complete. It’s 12”x18”, acrylic on canvas. The concept came to me while trying to get back to sleep in the middle of the night. Sadly, this term was influential in my deciding to forgo pursuing a fine arts career after high school, instead choosing the "commercial art" route (graphic design/illustration). It was a wise decision, and though I’ve made a modest living as a graphic artist, I'm really enjoying painting in my semi-retirement. Obviously titled “The Starving Artist”.
